The United States Department of Agriculture has announced new regulations in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. Changes to W.I.C. guidelines will make only lowfat and fat free versions of milk available to W.I.C participants in most new food packages. These changes will be implemented nationwide by October 1, 2009.
With the upcoming changes in regulations, make sure your customers who are W.I.C. participants keep drinking milk. MilkPEP is making educational materials available to help educate W.I.C. participants about the nutritional benefits of lowfat and fat free milk.
W.I.C. participants who are used to drinking whole milk may stop drinking milk all together due to a perceived lesser nutritional value and taste difference.
