Sue Haney, Varsity Basketball Coach and Director of Athletics at St. Margaret's School, first heard about the recovery benefits of chocolate milk in an article entitled "Eat to Compete" in STACK Magazine. After reading that chocolate milk was the best way for athletes to replenish the carbohydrates and proteins lost during physical exertion, she decided to try chocolate milk as a post-game "treat" for her players. Just one taste and her team was hooked and fat-free chocolate milk has now become a post-game ritual.
Sue chills a gallon before every game. “The bus doesn't leave without the milk cooler and cups,” says Sue, “They’ll always ask me if I brought the milk which lets me know that they look forward to our post game chocolate milk celebration!” Sue says that she personally recommends chocolate milk over other sports drinks because she feels it does a better job replacing the carbs and proteins expended during competition – and has seen its recovery benefits firsthand, noting that her athletes seem to rebound quickly after workout thanks to their post-exercise chocolate milk routine.
In fact, this has been the best season in the Varsity Basketball program’s history since 1999. The team finished first in the regular season and were the runners-up in the Tournament Championship!
