See what happened in Pittsburgh when Bill Schrimm decided that milk could be a big seller in area vending machines.
A few years ago, Bill Schrim of W.S. Vending Company decided that high school students would buy milk if it was available to them in vending machines at school. With this in mind, Bill bought two of the first milk vending machines manufactured in his area and put them in two high schools as a test. He filled the machines with white and chocolate milk in plastic bottles. As new flavors were available, he added strawberry and vanilla flavors. He also added shelf stable milk when it became available for the vending machines because it cut down on waste.
Milk became a big seller. Even when it was priced slightly higher than sodas in nearby machines, students bought lots of milk. When Bill replaced his original vending machines with Nestle milk vending machines for more brand visibility, his vending milk sales doubled.
Outside of schools, Bill put milk in vending machines all around the local area.
Now, Bill sells up to six cases per machine per week in schools, office buildings, a recreational center, and a shopping mall.
According to Bill, “Everybody’s buying it. Milk vends. Milk works!”
