Advocating the benefits of chocolate milk makes Strength and Conditioning Coach Jake Anderson of Central College in Pella, Iowa, a true ambassador of chocolate milk. Doing his very best to educate all his students on the importance of recovery, Jake and the staff of Central College take them through a 3-day nutritional evaluation, and then meet with each student one-on-one about the importance of nutrition and recovery in sports. And the students are responding well. But why has Jake become an ambassador of lowfat chocolate milk? Because, "In my experience, it offers such an advantage over other recovery beverages. For example, it's effective at helping my athletes recover, has many nutrients not typically found in sports drinks and is delicious and affordable." Both his female and male athletes appreciate the convenience, cost and natural nutrition that chocolate milk provides. And, as far as the “convenience factor” he says, “students can get it right from our weight room fridge or our cafeteria after a workout. I’d say we have a pretty sound system of recovery.”
In the past, they had a problem making post-workout nutrition easy and affordable, but Jake says that’s what chocolate milk has done. Along with some assistance from his local processor, Anderson Erickson Dairy, Coach Anderson worked to get low fat chocolate milk on the shelves in his school. And they surely succeeded at that. Jake also lends thanks to Dr. Calvin Willis and his wife Denise who helped shape a small, private study on using lowfat chocolate milk in the recovery process of Jake’s athletes. Jake attributes Dr. Willis’s enthusiasm for milk for his success in educating his students and providing the chocolate milk through his local processor.
Not only has Jake Anderson and the team at Central College spread the word about the benefits of chocolate milk, but Jake has seen the results in his own comparison from year to year. Coach Jake Anderson believes in the benefits of chocolate milk, and his students feel it!
