Jolene Lindgren is in her second year as Food Service Director with High Plains Community School in Polk, Nebraska, and she's already making positive changes concerning milk nutrition. Her first step was to make milk more appealing to students by increasing the flavors offered. Her school now offers white, chocolate, skim chocolate and strawberry.
Along with expanding milk options, Jo and her staff make sure to hang the free MilkPEP milk mustache celebrity posters and banners in the cafeteria. These posters are so popular that now Jolene holds a school drawing for the posters so lucky students can win them and take them home. At the end of the school year, the posters are hung on a wall and students put their names in a bowl placed under each specific prize that they want to win. Milk is always offered during the drawing, and the event has been so successful that it’s now offered every year.
Jolene's students enjoy the new event and the new milk offerings so much that currently, 95% of students are consuming milk on a regular basis.
