When a student athlete from Jamesville-DeWitt High School in DeWitt, New York, heard about the Spotlight On program, she jumped at the chance to have her coaches recognized. According to their team, Head Coach Hayley Nies and assistant Coach Rebecca Peter have done much more than teach their athletes how to play; they’ve taught them how to get the proper nutrition it takes to win.
Under the leadership of Coach Nies and Coach Peter, DeWitt’s girl’s soccer team won the Regional Championship, the Freedom National League Championship, the prestigious Post-Standard Central New York Premier Sports Program Award and have become two-time winning Section III Class A Champions! In order to make these great strides, Coach Nies and Coach Peter made sure that their athletes were informed about proper nutrition and recovery, which included encouraging chocolate milk consumption. They know that athletes can refuel, rehydrate and replenish their bodies with lowfat chocolate milk after a strenuous workout. The two coaches recognize the importance of lowfat chocolate milk so much, that they have reached out to the Refuel with Chocolate Milk program and have applied for a grant http://www.refuelwithchocolatemilk.com/grants/ to help them continue with their post-workout recovery program plans.

Coach Nies and Coach Peter know that knowledge of proper nutrition is not only important for their athletes, but for their athlete’s parents as well. By keeping DeWitt’s girl’s soccer parents informed on the latest research about lowfat chocolate milk, the coaches created so much enthusiasm that the parents began providing chocolate milk for the team!
Athletes like DeWitt’s soccer players depend on their coaches to learn about proper nutrition and how to take care of their bodies on and off the field. And thanks to the dedication of coaches like Hayley Nies and Rebecca Peter, and the refueling power of chocolate milk, DeWitt is getting the nutrition of champions.
