Two years ago, Carrollton High School Food Service Manager Flora Stitcher was the 2009 Spotlight On winner for her commitment to teaching her students’ about proper nutrition. For one week, Flora used posters, banners, created a video, and even hosted a school-wide celebration which provided her students information about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. Her theme focused on the important role milk plays in getting teens the nutrients they need. Read about Flora's previous win here!
Since then, Flora has kept the momentum going on her mission to keep her students healthy with milk. Carrollton High School has held various promotions since 2009 that focus on encouraging activity and health for children, with an emphasis on milk consumption. As a result, the school’s milk consumption has more than doubled in two years, with milk only being served at lunch. Flora says all of her students know why it’s important to drink milk. They simply say “it’s good for you!”Flora is also a personal advocate of flavored milk’s recovery benefits – she includes as part of her own post-workout routine. And soon Carrollton’s athletes will make it part of theirs too, when a milk cooler is installed in their new gym, perfect for refueling after workouts!
