When Gracie Duran, the Child Nutrition Director for Holy Family School in Corpus Christi, Texas, realized that her students were not getting the nutrition they needed, she implemented the National School Lunch Program. And who was the star pupil of the Holy Family School lunch line? Milk.
Milk played a key role in Gracie’s new lunch program. Her students each get their own milk cartons and are able to choose between white or chocolate. In the past, the lunch room staff had been pouring milk in cups for the kids. This has brought a new sense of excitement to breakfast and lunch.
Gracie has not only made mealtime more nutritious and exciting, but has also made it more meaningful for her students. Gracie places reminders around the cafeteria that encourage students to finish their milk and lunches, reminding them how fortunate they are to have a nutritious meal.
The results of Gracie’s school lunch program have been nothing short of encouraging. Thanks to her hard work, and milk’s nutrition, the students of Holy Family School are eating better, have a better demeanor and are not only excited, but are also thankful for mealtime.
