After seeing a slight decline in milk consumption, Renee Miles, a Foodservice Director in Toppenish, WA for the last 25 years, found the perfect opportunity to drive enthusiasm and promote consumption in her schools. Aware of her students’ interests, and knowing the nutritional value that milk can provide them, Renee decided to create a program that would combine the two.
Inspired by the Milk Mustache “got milk?®” celebrity posters, Renee enlisted students to star in their very own Milk Mustache ads. The ads feature students, sporting Milk Mustaches to promote milk, with descriptions to show off their unique personalities and interests, like “got sports?” and “got books?” Then Renee and her colleagues printed and framed the ads, and featured them throughout the school and cafeteria for all to see!
Renee’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. She explains that students “light up and are very honored” when they are chosen as the monthly Milk Mustache star. And the boost in consumption that Toppenish schools have seen proves that milk and students are a winning combination!
