Newly appointed Food Service Director of Shepard Public School in Shepard, Michigan, Tina Schafer is confident in milk’s nutrition, in and out of the lunchroom. That’s why she began providing milk, as part of a boxed meal program for her school’s football players. And according to Tina, the most valuable player is lowfat chocolate milk.
At a nutrition class, Tina learned about the importance of a proper diet for student athletes, and discovered the science behind lowfat chocolate milk’s refueling properties. She realized that her hardworking student athletes may not be getting the right mix of carbs, proteins and other important nutrients their bodies need to recover.
So Tina joined up with her school’s head coach to put together a program that provided boxed meals for 70+ athletes to consume after games, which included chocolate milk to help them refuel and rehydrate their bodies. And since encouraging the consumption of both white and flavored milk, Tina has also seen increases in consumption behind the counter.
As a mother of a football player herself, Tina has seen the benefits of flavored milk first hand, both at school and at home. As a mother, school nutrition professional and football fan, Tina supports milk in schools 100%.
