VENDING : MILK VENDING ADVISORY COUNCIL

MILK PEP ADVISORY COUNCIL SPARKS INCREASED INTEREST IN MILK VENDING
NAMA Expo Panel Discussion Offers Tips and Insights for Operators Seeking to Capitalize on Trend

Over 30 vending operators benefited from vended milk success stories at the recent NAMA National Expo panel discussion presented by members of the Milk Vending Advisory Council. The session, entitled "got milk?"® It Does a Business Good — How Vending Milk Can Help Increase Sales, offered insights and data that point to a growing opportunity for milk vending in schools, business, industry and public locations. The Milk Vending Advisory Council was founded by the Milk Processor Education Program (MilkPEP). Panelists included the following Council Members who each presented key findings based on personal successes in milk vending and industry studies:
  • Joe Melone, National Vending and Foodservice Sales Manager, Nestle USA, Inc., Naperville, IL
  • Barry Frankel, President, The Family Vending Company, Sunrise, FL
  • Steve Harkins, Director of Marketing and National Accounts, Cranes Merchandising Systems, Acton, Ontario, Canada
  • Julia Kadison, panel moderator. Managing Director and COO, Beverage Marketing Corporation, New York, New York

Summary of Key Opportunities:

  • The opportunity for milk vending is more viable than ever, with consumer trends, product development and even legislative actions paving the way and driving demand for healthier beverage options outside the home.

  • Milk vending market tests have proven that consumers will buy milk from vending machines in a multitude of locations, including schools and work places, as well as public locations.

  • Schools are a particular target for milk vending today, with competitive high-sugar beverages like soft drinks being limited or eliminated in many districts and states. Nutritious milk is a perfect alternative.

  • There is an even greater opportunity outside the school/education channel:

    • Brand owners and dairy processors are providing more and better products for vending, and are focusing on the vending channel by investing in equipment and more dedicated programs and staff.
    • Vending machine manufacturers have innovated venders to address the unique issues related to milk vending, and continue to evolve the technology based on input from the vending community and real-market experience.

  • Vending operators are capitalizing on the resources and promotions offered through the highly successful National Milk Mustache "got milk?"® Campaign to help drive sales.
